Temp to Perm

Our client based in Chester is currently looking for an HSE Officer to join their existing team on a permanent basis. This client is a worldwide supplier of building products and the site is one of the UK’s largest suppliers for a variety of products to the building industry and others.

Purpose of the role

To take the lead in delivering world-class H&S performance across the business.

As a minimum, the role will ensure everyone in the company complies with health and safety laws, policy and procedures, through appropriate support and oversight activities, including the provision to managers of advice, training and monitoring.  Just as important is the desire to create and maintain a safety culture which reflects H&S as the number one priority for the business.  The role will support the wider management team in embedding this principle ever-more deeply in the beliefs, values, attitudes and behaviours of all people working in the company.  Finally, the role will work with the management team to set policy, define best practice and explore opportunities for improved H&S performance.


The position will be fully accountable for the operational implementation of Health & Safety functional work across the entire business.  It is not accountable for the day-to-day health and safety of the workforce, which is the accountability of Managers. The role is accountable to the Health, Safety and Environmental Manager.

Close working relationships

The H&S Officer will be required to work effectively with all other members of the Management team and their Team Leaders.


Key responsibilities
  • Ensure the business is fully up to speed with current and planned changes to H&S legislation, attending such courses and events as necessary
  • Liaise with industry H&S bodies


Essential experience
  • Trained in Health & Safety management methods
  • A-levels, in numeracy disciplines such as maths, science or technology disciplines
  • NEBOSH General Certificate in H&S
  • Computer literate, experienced in using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Experience of managing HSE systems
  • 2-5 years’ hands-on experience in an H&SE role
